This horse is tired and the car is running out of gas;
we’ve been going down this road a while
but it’s not as long as it seems
if you’re daydreaming in the passenger’s seat.
I don’t know how we got here,
I don’t know where we turned wrong,
if we ever got anything right;
each side of the highway is burning sand
and the horizon on approach is a giant’s maw
open gaped wide tilted back to chew us up
and spit us out.
Yet, choices were made
and we can weep over the tragedies of this bumpy road
but must own our stake in them:
when you foment a moment
you never know what you might get.
